Total flexibility? You don't need it

Flexibility, as a concept, is very appealing and even fashionable. Nowadays, we can enjoy many things with flexibility, without restrictions, adjusting to our needs or desires. Take public bicycles or electric scooters, for example, or vehicle rental by the hour: anytime, whenever you want. However, there is always a limit: the availability of the vehicle at the needed time and place. How many times did I end up walking or taking public transportation...

Which brings us to online services. Our language courses are completely online, made up of two indispensable pillars: the Academy and classes. Offering total flexibility is certainly appealing. However, the specific nature of each of these pillars makes a distinction between them necessary.

The Academy

Developed by our team of teachers and completely dedicated and adapted to the business context, our platform of exercises and autonomous learning activities is considered Software as a Service, so there is no limit to its availability. Whenever the user wants, they can use the platform, in the same way that Google or Amazon don't close. It's like joining a gym, you can go at any time, but with the advantage that you never have to wait to use a machine: it's always free. This is what we mean by total flexibility and it is the advantage of digital. That's why an ebook can be distributed and accessed more easily than a printed book.

The classes

In this case, however, individual classes are done live with one of our teachers. Although they are also virtual, my teacher's availability is limited. Yes, for this purpose, a teacher is like a bicycle: if they are with someone else, they cannot be with me. Additionally, they can only work a certain number of hours per day. Some companies solve this problem with a system that allows students to take classes with any teacher who is available at the desired time. However, this is the crux of the matter: it is not productive from a pedagogical point of view.

We've explained it before and we'll say it again: it doesn't make sense to have a different personal trainer every time I go to the gym; and the same logic applies to language teaching. A continuity model is the only one that allows for a much more important concept, which is at the heart of our method: personalisation. It allows the student to create an optimal learning space, adapted to their needs, goals and pace, establishing a bond of trust with the trainer that contributes to maintaining high motivation and attention during the course, and allowing them to express themselves without fear or shame in a new language.
